Objective: Develop business skills

- Become immersed in advertising
- Evidence: Include in my portfolio a brochure that advertises our work and is information clients can bring home to explain the therapy to family and friends.
Since my ultimate goal is to run my own equine therapy business I wanted to understand skills required to run a successful business. Although European Equestrian Concept’s only form of advertisement is word of mouth and a website, we had a waitlist. Since I was often asked how to explain the therapy to family members and friends I thought it would be useful for our clients to have a pamphlet they could give to people to explain the work we did. If in the future EEC ever needs to advertise they could leave brochures at locations around the area.
Through the billing process I learned how expensive it is to keep horses and ways to make it less expensive. For example the cost of bedding skyrocketed so EEC returned to a more natural way of keeping horses where the they lived outside most of the time and only came into their stalls to be fed and prepared for sessions. To save on farrier bills most horses didn’t wear shoes and were trimmed every 6-8 weeks. Instead of feeding expensive brand name feed such a “nutriena” we fed oats and barley which is actually healthier for the horses because it has less sugar. These money saving tips are useful for an equestrian business.
